Kilkenny, long renowned as
Ireland's Medieval Capital, the city's origins date back to more than 1,500
years ago. The great building prowess of the Normans is very evident in the
11th and 12th century buildings in the city. Not alone in
the large "set piece" buildings, such as the Saint Canice's Cathedral, the
great Butler Castle and the four mediaeval abbeys but also the linear
streetscape, especially the attractive slipways. |
Kilkenny has a deep sense of civic
awareness which has resulted in this beautiful town winning the National Tidy
Towns competition on no less than three occasions. Also of interest may be the
large Guinness brewery in the town centre (dark beer and lagers)!
Druminir, approximately 45 minutes drive has a beautiful boating lake with
shoreline, play areas, picnic tables and restful paddling. |
Ireland is known as the
land of saints and scholars. You don't have to travel far to enjoy its immense
history, rich culture and warm welcome. There are numerous castles, country
houses, gardens and areas of outstanding beauty. Holycross sits in the middle
of this within Tipperary, the golden Vale. Visitors are well catered for with
high standards from gourmet tastes to pub food. |
The south and east coast are easily
accessible for day trips (approx. 80 miles), offering beaches, and Ireland's
finest watersports and sailing at reasonable prices. Ardmore, Youghal, Tramore
all have good beaches with a choice of quiet seclusion or activities for
children. |
